Street harassment is a form of violence and is punishable by law!
In our country, 8 out of 10 women say they feel unsafe on the street at night, half of them, 4 out of 10 don’t feel safe on the street during the day either, while 7 out of 10 do not expect someone to intervene to defend them if they are harassed in the public space.
Independent Deputy Oana Bîzgan proposed amending Law no. 202/2002 on equal opportunities and treatment of women and men, so that these acts are sanctioned by contravention. The proposal was adopted by the Parliament and published in Monitorul Oficial – Law no. 232 of 2 August 2018.
This year, during the Week against street harassment that takes place internationally from April 7 to 13, we participated in the first campaign to inform and raise awareness on the phenomenon of street harassment in the context of the existence of a law that can and will sanction such acts.
At the invitation of Deputy Ms. Oana Bîzgan and with the support of the General Police Directorate of the Bucharest Police, we participated in the creation of two spots for informing on the forms and methods of prevention of harassment in the public space.
We thank all those who participated in the creation of this campaign!!
