FIST’20 vs. COVID-19 or domestic violence during pandemic
On November 14, Frontline Club Bucharest and Goethe-Institute Bucharest organized a debate about domestic violence during pandemic.

In the country where the “traditional” family still operates according to the principles of “the beating is broken from heaven” and “the woman should obey the man”, domestic violence is part of normalcy.
In such a society, it is difficult for victims to find even understanding and compassion. What about the services they need to get out of the abusive relationship?
What happens when you lock up victims and abusers in the same space for two months? This is the question we want to find an answer to. What was the situation before the quarantine and what happened with the arrival of the COVID pandemic, it was possible to ensure the protection and assistance of the victims, the number of requests for help and the police interventions increased?

A group of doctors analyzed the cause of the polytraumas they treated at the St. Pantelimon Emergency Hospital in the Capital and found that, while the number of traffic accidents decreased, the number of victims of domestic violence increased by 400%. The oldest victim who arrived at the emergency room during the state of emergency was 74 years old.
