Between March 20 and 22 this year, the Grand Continental Hotel in Bucharest became the host of the first regional meeting of the Women Against Violence Europe (WAVE) Network. The meeting was organised by the WAVE Network together with Necuvinte Association and brought together 17 non-governmental organisations WAVE members from 7 countries:
Moldova Republic: AO Ophelia, Asociația împotriva Violenței „Casa Mărioarei” , Centrul de Sprijin și Dezvoltare a Inițiativelor Civice „Rezonanță”, Centrul Centrul de Drept al Femeilor, Coaliția Națională „Viața fără Violență în Familia”
Romania: Asociația A.L.E.G., Asociația Anais, Asociatia Necuvinte, Centrul Filia, Fundatia Sensiblu
Slovakia: Fenestra
Ukraine: La Strada-Ukraine
Hungary: NANE – Asociația pentru drepturile femeilor, Patent,
Poland: Juniper, Autonomy Foundation
Czech Republic: proFem
The main purpose of the regional meeting was to create a safe space for dialogue among members who are in the same region and may face similar political and other issues.
During the 3 days, topics related to the political and legislative context of each country were debated, projects and implementation models from each participating country were presented and difficulties we face and potential solutions in managing them.
The WAVE network is an umbrella network for over 170 members from 46 European countries, dedicated to defending the rights of women and children, preventing and combating domestic and gender-based violence.

This first meeting also came in the context of WAVE Network 30 years anniversary, 30 years of activity in the field of protecting the rights of women and children.
We are grateful for the opportunity to host this first meeting and hope it will be the first in a long line of similar meetings between organisations in the area.
