DOVIRA – Meeting the essential SRH needs of communities affected by the Russian aggression in Ukraine in Romania
Project financed by UNFPA – United Nation Population Fund through IPPF – International Planned Parenthood Federation
The project comes as a response to the refugee crisis generated by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and addresses women and girls fleeing war and is carried out in consortium with Youth for Youth and the SECS Association.
According to a rapid assessment of the impact of the war in Ukraine on women’s civil society organizations by UN Women, the following key areas of concern for women and girls were identified:
• Immediate threats to safety, such as lack of access to shelters.
• Lack of basic necessities such as food, medicine, hygiene items, accommodation, water and access to electricity and connectivity.
• Loss of livelihoods, including people’s inability to work and earn an income.
• The psychological impact of war and constant fear has a strong impact on people.
• Sexual and gender-based violence in public and private spaces is not adequately prevented or responded to.
• Lack of communication, information and social services, including lack of legal aid, gaps in childcare services and access to social services needed by vulnerable groups.
• Exclusion from planning and decision-making at all levels and not being able to participate in humanitarian response planning and peace/security efforts.
As part of the project, a bilingual Ukrainian-English Pocket Guide was produced with essential information on Gender-Based Violence, domestic violence and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
The Pocket Guide can be downloaded freely::
