“Broken Wings” Caravan in Oradea

The “Broken Wings” Caravan is part of the national campaign for the prevention of domestic violence with the same name implemented by Necuvinte Association in partnership with the Romanian Police, financed by Kaufland Romania.

More details about the national campaign “Broken Wings” here.

The second stop of the National Caravan was in Bihor county, in Oradea, where, together with Oradea City Hall, which hosted us, a roundtable on awareness raising on the phenomenon of domestic violence was held. During the event, the documentary “Broken Wings” was presented, the campaign materials and the comparative study on the implementation of the emergency protection order in the years 2015 and 2016 at Bihor county level and the national situation were distributed and talks were held on how to prevent violence, the role of the authorities, informing the population and helping victims.

The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Forin Birta, members of the Chamber of Deputies Florica Chereche, Rozalia Biro and Ioan Cupsa, as well as representatives of the National Police, Local Police, NGOs, Women’s Union and the Romanian Court.

“I congratulate you for your work and because you are organising such events that bring us to the same table, both by authorities and by NGOs. Preventing domestic violence must become a priority, and local and central authorities must work with you, those involved to reduce domestic violence. The fact that at the end of 2015 you succeeded in amending Law 217/2003 on combating domestic violence and shortened the time for issuing the protection order for victims to no more than 72 hours is a success and shows that we can make improvements to the laws in force and, of course, with the support and involvement of as many factors as possible, we can help reduce this phenomenon”, Florin Birta said at the opening of the event.

Participants who have spoken have agreed that there is a need for social dialogue, more information on existing issues, and partnerships with the Ministry of Education and School Inspectorates, education playing a key role in combating this phenomenon.

The members of the Chamber of Deputies present today have promised that they will stand next to all those who will take steps to reduce violence and will campaign for budget allocations for centers and victims as well as for aggressors and to implement the proposals that have been made in today’s talks.

We thank Oradea City Hall and Anca Grama Sas, Vice-President of PNL Oradea for supporting this event.
